EXTERIOR HOUSE STAINING

We are now applying our wood restoration expertise and knowledge to your home's entire wood exterior. We spend the time to thoroughly prepare your home for staining. We constantly research and implement the most current materials and practices. And we communicate with you during the entire process to insure your satisfaction. Unlike most painters, our work includes an intensive restoration of your deck's horizontal surfaces, including sanding the deck boards and handrails. We finish every job with a professional window cleaning.

The Process:
Preparation is the key to a good finished product. We use a three stage washing process to revive and prepare your house for the staining process. First, we clean the wood with Wood Wash, removing most of the failed wood stain, water stains, mildew/mold and surface dirt. Next, we apply Wood Brightener, an acid that lightens and evens the tone of the wood. Finally, we use a high-pressure rinse to remove any residual dirt and stain build-up.

The staining process is comprised of four major steps. First, all windows, light fixtures, rockwork, etc. is masked and taped off. Next, a stain 'flood coat' is applied to the entire wood surface and hand back-brushed to achieve thorough and even stain application. We're aware that certain areas of your home may need different amounts of stain product depending on sun and snow exposure and adjust our stain application with these considerations in mind.

To ensure an even appearance and maximize longevity from the staining process, we saturate the wood with as much stain as possible. As a result, the stain may continue to drip for a few days after the actual staining occurs. We do our best to minimize these drips, but stain dripping is normal and is considered to be a part of the staining process.

We complete every job by unmasking all windows and fixtures, wiping up puddles and catching drips to the best of our ability. After the stain has had a chance to dry we have a professional window cleaner wash your exterior windows.

Our Products:
We believe in using only the best products available. That's why we use BioWash chemicals and a variety of stains depending on your sidings specific needs. We often use SuperDeck and Olympic stain products, as they are the most widely used products in the Lake Tahoe area because of their color dependability, durability and finished product look.

Questions:
Does my house need to be stained? It is time to have your house stained if you notice that the wood is darkening and/or dry. Stain is like sun- screen for your home; it slowly wears away and needs to be re-applied.

Does SnowTech need access to my home? We will need access to your home if we are performing deck restoration work in addition to staining the house. Our floor sanders weigh just over 150 lbs, which makes them very difficult to carry up a ladder. In most cases, we do not need access to your home if we are not doing extensive deck board sanding.

Should we be at the house when the work is performed? It is not necessary that you be at your home while the work is being performed. The odor of the stain and the claustrophobic feeling that comes when your windows are taped off can make being in the home uncomfortable. We recommend that house staining be performed when the home is vacant.

How long will this stain job last? We recommend that you stain your exterior siding every 3 to 4 years. Exceptions that can either increase or decrease the stain longevity include sun and wind exposure, type of wood siding and the stain product used.
